I pitched Jesse Singal for this podcast (because I presumed he would be on if his book ever comes out), and it happened. You should have Ruy Teixeira on to discuss the shuttering of The Liberal Patriot. His announcement of the closure included a statement that there does not seem to be a market for centrist thought, regardless of it is an influential voting bloc.

Just want to say that I'm sorry for dumping so much on Ben for his pronunciation...because neither Josh nor Megan corrected him once out of the several thousand times he said "Tilaaamoook", so we should have been dumping on THEM just as much. They shouldn't get to laugh at poor Ben's misfortune, as they are just as culpable. Don't pretend like you guys knew it was wrong!

Oregon isn't exactly known for a lot of things. We have Nike, Kindergarten Cop, and Tillamook Ice Cream, that's about it. So we have to protect what we got! Also, they mispronounce the name of our state in Kindergarten Cop, so we are already sensitive about this kind of thing.

I have been having the vanilla argument with my family since my daughter was old enough to argue!

In homage to Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies, I always insist to them that vanilla is "the finest of the flavors."

Every time this debate gets framed as ‘districts vs. proportional,’ I wonder why mixed-member proportional (MMP) never comes up. You keep geographic representatives AND get a proportional outcome. Germany has used it since 1949, New Zealand switched to it in the 90s, and Scotland uses it too. Somehow it’s something completely unknown here in the US.

I think drastically increasing the size of the house paired with MMP would have enormous benefits for representation and legislation in America.
