Trump's Numbers Are So Bad That Democrats Might Actually Win The Senate (w/ Lakshya Jain)

Lakshya Jain, polling director for The Argument, gives them a 45% chance to win the chamber

Dear listeners,

We had another really interesting lunchtime live chat with Lakshya Jain, who was kind enough to return to Central Air to talk about new polling he has conducted for The Argument.

The full video is at this link for paying subscribers, but we have a free preview here of the portion of our conversation about the Senate, which Lakshya thinks Democrats have a better chance of retaking than conventional wisdom would hold: About a 45% chance, he says.

The key to this is Alaska: a very strong recruit in former congresswoman Mary Peltola, plus the weakening national environment for Republicans, make what had looked like a longshot race into something like a tossup. And putting one more state on the map makes it far more viable for Democrats to pick up the four seats they would need to control the chamber.

You can watch this preview video for our discussion of the rest of the Senate map, or upgrade to get the full conversation, including a discussion of how Trump has deteriorated in his standing among his own voters, especially women. More than one in five women who voted for Trump now disapprove of his performance, but Democrats aren’t doing that well at picking up those disaffected women voters, and we had an interesting chat a discussion about what they might do to do better.

We hope you enjoy the episode and we’d love your feedback on who else you’d like to see us have live conversations with.
